Cookie Policy

Last updated: 10 September 2026

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit a website. We also use similar browser storage technologies (such as localStorage) for the same purposes. This policy explains what we use, why, and how you can control them. It should be read alongside our Privacy Policy.

2. Cookies we use

Strictly necessary cookies

These are required for the Directory to function and cannot be switched off. They are set in response to actions you take, such as signing in.

  • Authentication session — keeps practitioners signed in to their account securely while they edit their profile. Set by our authentication provider; expires when you sign out or after a period of inactivity.
  • Bot protection tokens — used on forms (such as the join form) to prevent spam and automated abuse.

Functional / preference storage

  • Cookie consent choice — remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies so we don't ask you on every visit.
  • Join form draft — if you start the practitioner join form, your answers are saved in your browser so they can prefill your profile after you sign in. This never leaves your device until you submit your profile.

Analytics cookies (optional)

With your consent, we use privacy-friendly analytics to understand how visitors find and use the Directory — for example, which pages are most helpful. This helps us improve the site. Analytics cookies are only set if you click "Accept" on the cookie banner.

Third-party cookies

When billing is enabled, payments are processed by Stripe, which may set cookies for fraud prevention during checkout. Links to external sites (such as booktherapy.io or book retailers) are governed by those sites' own cookie policies.

3. Managing your consent

You can change your mind at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings — the consent banner will appear again on your next visit. You can also block or delete cookies through your browser settings; please note that blocking strictly necessary cookies will prevent sign-in and other core features from working.

4. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time, for example if we add new analytics tools. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
